5 Cozy Local Coffee Shops Calgary

Home » Destinations » 5 Cozy Local Coffee Shops Calgary

You all know that one of my favourite hobbies is finding new local coffee shops Calgary has to offer. There are so many things to do in Calgary and café hopping is definitely one of them. I recently became a member of Perked Club, which made cafe hopping so much more affordable.

The Perked coffee sipscription gives members one free brewed coffee per day at 40+ cafés in Calgary and Edmonton. Perked Club has partnered with some of my personal local favourites — like Fenyk Coffee and Velet Bike Ski Cafe — and they’re currently offering a free 2-week trial for new members with this link:

In this blog, we are going cafe hopping using the Perked sipscription. And because of Perked Club, I’ve found 5 cozy local coffee shops in Calgary for you to add to your list.

1. Congress Coffee Company

Congress Coffee is not your typical coffee shop, but a soulful neighbourhood gathering spot for the Calgary community. I came during the daytime for a quiet solo working day and it really is the coolest vibe.

Their coffee beans are hand-roasted in small batches at this independent coffee house. They offer a pay what you can drip coffee option. During my visit, I ordered both a warm oat latte and an iced strawberry matcha. The Perked sipscription took $2 off each of these specialty drinks for me!

In the evening is where things get really fun here at Congress Coffee. And you should definitely come by with friends to watch a live performance by local artists, dancers and musicians. Congress Coffee hosts live shows almost every night (with 100% of door sales going directly to the artists).

2. Bread & Brew

Bread & Brew is a cozy, family-owned café and sandwich shop located in downtown Calgary. They serve fresh, handcrafted sandwiches, house made soups, and quality coffee. Bread & Brew is the perfect casual lunch spot. You can grab and go, but there’s also seating if you want to stay. I love the yellow picnic table in their shop, it adds the coziest touch for your lunch date!

I picked up their caramel macchiato ($2.00 off with the Perked Club discount). And of course, I couldn’t leave without trying one of their sandwiches. I would highly recommend their 15-hour brisket, which was so tender and melt in your mouth delicious.

They opened in January 2025 by the same owners as Korilla and Ok-Top, so you know the food here is good! It’s one of the newest local coffee shops Calgary has to offer and definitely worth checking out for lunch.

3. Distilled Coffee & Wine Bar

If you’re looking for a calm and elevated spot to unwind, Distilled Coffee & Wine Bar in Marda Loop is a must-visit. I went in thinking it was a regular cafe, but was greeted with so much more than that. This warm and inviting space, blends the best of a café, wine, and beauty bar together, creating the perfect mid-day escape from the city.

I absolutely love this concept. I’ve been many places during my travels, and I truly haven’t come across anywhere as unique as Distilled Beauty Bar.

If you’re using the Perked coffee sipscription, your americano is on the house. They also serve light lunch options, which makes it the perfect gathering spot with your girlfriends.

4. Eight Ounce Coffee

Eight Ounce Coffee is another local coffee shop in Calgary that is not just your average coffee shop. They are also Canada’s largest distributor of specialty coffee gear — meaning you’ll find everything from sleek pour-over kits to rare beans sourced from top roasters.

Their retail selection of coffee beans is massive, and the vibe here is warm, minimalist, and community-focused. The staff are really cool coffee people and super knowledgeable to help guide you if you’re looking for the perfect coffee beans to elevate your barista skills at home. It’s a must-visit for anyone passionate about coffee and one of the most unique local coffee shops Calgary has to offer.

5. Aroma Café Bar

Aroma Café Bar is a family-owned local gem that brings warmth, culture, and comfort to the Marda Loop community. Their first location opened 2020 in cSPACE Marda Loop, followed by their second location on 33rd Ave in 2023.

I visited their 33rd Ave location and to give you some insight on the love they’ve put into their cafe space, take a look at the green wall inside the cafe. You’ll notice pieces of a beautiful vitrine from their own family home, kept for over 20 years, which now decorates the café wall, creating a home away from home.

They serve coffee alongside a menu of comforting authentic Mexican dishes, making Aroma a special stop among local coffee shops that Calgary locals truly love.

There really is so much heart and soul poured into these shops that you’ll definitely feel when you come visit!

Perked Club’s mission is to connect coffee lovers with local coffee shops in Calgary and I truly feel they have done that. They’ve got 40+ more cafes on their sipscription, so be sure to check them out for free brewed coffee or $2 off specialty drinks.
