Coffee Shops in Downtown Calgary: Alforno Bakery & Cafe

Home » Destinations » Canada » Calgary » Coffee Shops in Downtown Calgary: Alforno Bakery & Cafe

There are so many great coffee shops in downtown Calgary. In this blog, I’m sharing my experience at Alforno Bakery & Cafe. If you’re looking for a cozy downtown coffee shop to spend a quiet morning, the Eau Claire location is perfect, as this cafe is nestled right beside the scenic Prince’s Island Park.

On a bright sunny day, I would highly recommend you getting your coffee to-go and then head out to enjoy the nearby walkways along the Bow river.

Disclaimer: Some of the coffee and desserts were gifted by Alforno Bakery & Cafe, however all my thoughts are my own.

Upon entering Alforno Bakery & Cafe, you are often greeted by a host at the front entrance. The Eau Claire location has a full menu and also offers brunch items to the left of the cafe. So if you are looking to stay for a meal, then you can be seated at their dining area. I haven’t explored that section myself, as I was just looking for a few treats to take to go, so I proceeded right into the walk up cafe. And you can do this without checking in with the host.

At the cafe, you will see that they offer coffee, pastries, sandwiches and dessert that you can take to stay or to go.

I especially love the winter season when cafes offer holiday drink features. I ordered their seasonal gingerbread latte, which is always perfect for the holiday season. My preference is to always get my lattes half sweet, but I forgot to mention it this time. I found the feature drinks were definitely on the sweeter side, so be sure to ask for your latte half sweet if that is also your preference.

Their chai and mocha syrups are all house made, which for me always sets cafes apart in terms of quality when they make their own syrups. I haven’t tried them myself yet, but it’ll be next on my list when I come next time.

For desserts, the barista had let me know that the cinnamon buns and tarts are the best sellers. So naturally I got both! The cinnamon bun was definitely a highlight for me. It was perfectly moist, soft and the frosting on top completely hit the spot.

I also got the raspberry tart and I have to say, the flavours were incredible! Sweet, yet a bit tangy, completely melt in your mouth delicious,
