Best Places to Visit in Singapore
I spent 2 days in Singapore for Lunar New Years in February and in this blog I’m sharing all the best places you need to visit on your upcoming trip.
Although I was only here for a short time, Singapore was one of my favourite countries visited during the 3 weeks I spent in South East Asia. I would describe Singapore as a beautiful fusion of city and nature, where you’ll find a hybrid of lush green sceneries alongside the city’s futuristic architecture.
7 Places to Visit in Singapore
- Gardens by the Bay
- Marina Bay Sands
- Merlion Park
- Kampong Glam
- Chinatown
- Universal Studios
- HSBC Rain Vortex
Gardens by the Bay
Gardens by the Bay is first on the list because it really is one of the best places to visit in Singapore. This is one of many places where Singapore’s nature and architecture merge. It features iconic attractions like the Supertree observatories (that you’ll recognize from the movie ‘Crazy Rich Asians’), the Cloud Forest, Flower Dome and Floral Fantasy conservatories.
This garden is located by many other places to visit in Singapore including the Marina Bay Sands, Merlion, Singapore Flyer and the ArtScience Museum.
You can purchase tickets online for one or multiple attractions starting 30 days prior to your visit. I had a chance to experience the Floral Fantasy conservatory and it cost 20 Singapore dollars for admission.
Marina Bay Sands
One of the most iconic buildings in Singapore is the Marina Bay Sands. You can’t miss it when walking around the Marina Bay Waterfront, as your eyes will be drawn to these 3 adjacent towering buildings, joined together by the observation SkyDeck.
Marina Bay Sands is a luxury resort and within it has a large shopping complex, casino and fine dining restaurants. The hotel is world famous for its infinity pool on the 57th floor that overlooks the city skyline (for hotel guests only). If you’re not a hotel resident, you can still enter the main shopping areas and reserve a ticket to head up to the 56th floor of the SkyDeck.
Inside the Marina Sands Shops, I would recommend checking out their food court. There’s such a great variety of Asian inspired cuisine there. At one of the vendors, I had a roasted duck on rice that was so tender and delicious! At night you can take a stroll along the Waterfront Promenade to watch the outdoor Spectra water and light show.
Merlion Park
No trip to Singapore is complete without a visit to Merlion Park, home to the iconic Merlion statue. This area along the water is so vibrant and lively with people, restaurants and sight-seeing viewpoints of Marina Bay. It’s such a beautiful spot for an afternoon walk to take in Singapores cityscape. Along the pedestrian friendly Jubilee Bridge is the best viewpoint see the Marina Sands in the distance.
Kampong Glam
The Kampong Glam neighbourhood is known as Singapore’s Muslim Quarter. This is such a beautiful area of Singapore filled with narrow alleyways lined with independent boutiques, vintage stores, Middle Eastern cuisine and cafes. It’s also your must go place for taking in the vibrant street art that this area has to offer. Things to see here include the Sultan Mosque, Malay Heritage Centre, Haji Lane and Arab Street.
Chinatown
I would highly recommend visiting Singapore during Lunar New Year in February, as Chinatown is incredibly festive and lively during this time. The New Years festival was packed with many street vendors including souvenir shops and street food. You can find anything from prosperous red New Years decorations, Chinese traditional dresses, lucky charms, tea sets, chopsticks and more.
Universal Studios
Universal Studios is located on Sentosa Island just off the Southern coast of Singapore. Sentosa is a large island resort which is easily accessible by multiple transportation options. In addition to Universal Studios, Sentosa island offers many different attractions ranging from adventurous water activities to relaxing beach days depending on what you’re looking for.
HSBC Rain Vortex
It’s not everyday that someone recommends that you spend some time at an airport. Before you leave on your flight home, plan to visit the Jewel Changi Airport. Because this is where you will find the HSBC Rain Vortex, the famous indoor waterfall surrounded by a beautiful lush green garden.
This is truly a beautiful experience to see. What I loved was that there are so many different viewpoints to view the waterfall from. There is ample seating all around the garden, so that you can relax before you head home after a week well spent in Singapore.
The Rain Vortex is located near the entrance in Terminal 1. You don’t need to go through security to see the Rain Vortex. Make sure to check updates on the hours of the waterfall show. If your flight is in a different terminal, arrive extra early to give yourself time to head there.
