Major Tom Bar is the perfect place for celebrations, a romantic date night, or introducing out-of-town guests to experience Calgary cuisine. Major Tom: the experience
When you arrive at the main entrance on the first level, you’re graciously welcome by the hostess and escorted up to the 40th floor. As the elevators opened up, we were lead through their gorgeous space surrounded by the panoramic view of the city skyline. There was such an inviting and lively presence to the restaurant. Especially as the golden hour sun peaked through the expansive windows, it creating the perfect ambiance for a memorable night out.

We arrived for our reservation at 7:00 pm on a warm October weekend. At this time of year, the sun sets a bit earlier compared to the summer months. In the distance, Rocky Mountains in the horizon and the sunset painting the sky a beautiful pink and pastel blue.
I was greeted with a birthday card at our table, signed by the entire team. I loved this, as it added such a lovely and personal touch to the evening. The hospitality was exceptional and the staff were all so inviting and kind. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and helped us decide on our perfect food pairings.
Reservations
I would highly recommend you make a reservation to Major Tom Bar, especially since seating around sunset is most popular and tend to get booked up quickly. There’s no guarantee to get a table by the window, but you can add a note to your reservation and I hope you get it!
As the courses of the evening were served, the city lights from this vantage point were nothing short of breathtaking. The sun had finally set and the vibrant city lights took its place.
The Menu
Major Tom stands out from other restaurants, as their dishes are presented with such care and fine attention to detail. We definitely ordered too much food, but it’s hard not to when every option sounded incredible!
I highly recommend the fusilli with shrimp, roasted tomato, chili and mint. This plate was my favourite and I cannot wait to come back for seconds. Another highlight were the Major Tots, a crisp and elevated twist on what I believe is like a tater tot with smoked sturgeon and pickled onions.
Overall, I had such memorable birthday dinner here at Major Tom and I’ll definitely be back soon!
